Jakarta Provincial Government is targeting to increase the area of green open space in the capital city for as much as 31 hectares. At this time, Jakarta Parks and Cemeteries Department is in acquisition process of lands located in 46 locations.

“It’s still in administration checking process. Hopefully the process could finish this year, so the payment could be done in early next year,” stated Head of Jakarta Parks and Cemeteries Department, Nandar Sunandar, Thursday (12/18).

Moreover, Sunandar disclosed that the initial target of land acquisition was 50 hectares in 89 locations. But after the administration papers checked, some of those lands were in dispute.

“Actually, we wanted to acquire 50 hectares of land in 89 locations. But after being checked, the lands located in 43 locations as wide as 19 hectares were disqualified in terms of legal aspects and physical condition,” he explained.

According to Sunandar, in terms of physical condition, those lands are difficult to be transformed into parks because there are still many illegal buildings occupied the lands. And to demolish those buildings, it would need a long time.

“While in terms of legal aspects, those lands are being mortgaged in the bank or the heirs of the lands do not agree to sell it. That’s why we cannot buy those lands since they do not meet these two factors,” he uttered.

For the lands to be acquisitioned, the process starts from the land map making by National Land Agency (BPN), trace construction by Spatial Planning Department, and the lands’ designation checking. As for this year, the lands taht have been successfully acquisitioned are only as wide as 3-4 hectares which spread in five municipalities.
